ARBITRATION COURT.
COMPENSATION CLAIMS. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, September 12. In the compensation case brought by John Dalziell against Craw Pros., flaxmillers, Tokomarn, plaintiff said that while in defendants' employ he met with an accident which rendered his right hand useless and caused him to lose one finger of his hand. His wages previously had been £2 8s a week. He claimed compensation equivalent to £1 -Is a week. Defendants denied that plaintiff was in their employ. They said that he had been employed by the Suckling, lessee of the mill. The Court reserved its decision.
An accident allegedly leading to blood poisoning was the basis of a claim for compensation brought b\ Herbert George Heavy against Hermann Heimann, of "Wellington, draper. The plaintiff saidthat while working for defendant he had his hands crushed between a door and a box lie was carrying. Blood poisoning, resulting in sores on the legs and arms, set in, and plaintiff was unable to continue his work. He claimed half wages (£1 os per week) from the date of the accident. Defendant denied that blood poisoning was the result of the accident, which was only<a slight one. After hearing medical evidence the Court gave judgment for plaintiff for £lO and costs (£4 4s)' as for injury to the hand.
The death of a stable employee was responsible for a claim by Florence Hardy, of Wellington, .against Tonks and Andrews, contractors. Plaintiff's late husband was employed by defendants, and while in their employ it was alleged that he injured his heart in lifting material at the stable, death resulting- Plain tiff and two children were left totally dependent. She claimed £129 compensation, and £2O funeral and medical expenses. The Court gave judgment for defendants, holding that plaintiff had failed to show that death arose out of and in the course of deceased's employment.
