Sir George Reid, while addressing the British Empire Association, of Chicago, pleaded for. Anglo-Saxon peace. He said Australia had never had bloodshed, and never expected to have it. Had the United States been born 300 years before it actually was, it would have annexed everything possible. There would never be bloodshed between Britain and United States, or Australia and United States. He hoped they would become, more closely united, thus making everything better in the Western Hemisphere. Mr Elwood Mead urged the Government ownership of public utilities and the conservation of the country's natural resources. Australia's ideal was collective efficiency opposing America's ideal of individual liberty and efficiency. Australia's successful incursion into State-owned industrial undertakings was leading to constant extensions.
