PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION.

(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, September 9. At a mooting of ttie Tost, and Telegraph staff to-night, the Public Service Bill was considered, and it was decided to make an emphatic protest againfet the proposal to bring the lost ,nd Telegraph Department under the provisions of the Bill, on the grounds that the service as a whole is satisfied with the present classification, which, if properly administered, would eliminate political patronage and departmental favouritism, and that the nature of the work and the hours of duty m this department are entirely foreign •o any other department of the Civil Service. The meeting urged that evidence bo taken by a committee of tne House of Representatives of branches ~f the Post and Telegraph Officers As s'ociation. it is contended that the powers conferred on the Commissioner m the matter of promotion are not well enough defined, and that the pro vision for one appeal board represema live for the. whole of the deparimen. practically means the disfranchise ment of one branch of the service.
