Mr. D. O. L. Howden, of the New Plymouth staff of the Bank of New Zealand, is to be transferred to Master ton.

Mr. A. Healy, on the occasion of his marriage, was the recipient of a silver egg cruet from Mr. Newton King's staff at }\ew Plymouth on Saturday. George T. Race, licensee of the Farmers' Arms Hotel, Dunedin, was thrown from his horse on Saturday evening, and succumbed to the injuries last night.—P.A. message. Mr. T. D. Sullivan, the Borough Overseer, at the meeting of the Borough Council last night, was granted three weeks' holiday leave of absence. The death occurred on Friday evening in Waitara, of Isaac, the joungost son of Parriss Taylor. A big tangi has been held. The body is being interred to-day in the family burying ground.

Miss Esther Mercy, of Chicago, is suing the Dean of the University of Chicago for £20,000 damages, because she was expelled from the student body of the University for wearing a hat that cost £SO. Mr. H. Willis, Inspector of Factories and Labour Department representative: of Xew Plymouth, has been transferred to the Christchurch office, whence he came to Xew Plymouth. He leaves at the end of the month for his new sphere. Mr. J. B. Campbell's illness will probably take him away from his for some weeks, and in the meantime % Mr. Beauchamp is acting as locum tenens. Stratford's popular and gonial stationmaster has been much missed, and general sympathy is being extended to him in his unfortunate illness, together with every hope for a speedy recovery.
