(Per Press Association.) Wellington, September oth. The Taupo-Totara Company’s petition was further investigated by a Select Committee to-day. Sir -loan Find lav, for the company, said he could iiot allow the company to rest under the imputation that any inducement had been offered by it. Ihe company asked for no concessions, and now simply put a business proposition before the Government. Mr. W. C. Kensington, late Undersecretary for Lands, supplemented the evidence given by him when the matc (M . W as last before Parliament. Li the past two years there had been an extraordinary change in public r.p.nion as to the nature of pumice lands, which were capable of being utilised with considerable profit. He considered it would he better for the Government to take over the Tanpo-Totara Mro. v’ben completed", at £IBO,OOO, rather than wait till the line from Rotorua could bo completed. Tlie latter could not be constructed at less than £OOOO nr £7OOO per mile.
