REJECTS AMERICAN ARGUMENT. (Received 9.20 a.m.) London, September- 5. Sir Edward Grey, in a letter to the '* Newcastle Chamber of Commerce, injects the American argument that inasmuch as coastal trade is Amcin -'■ monopoly of free passage through toe Canal for American coastal vcmc.c does nob affect foreigners. He poinen out that the Bill also contains pr -■ visions for free passage for American ships engaged in foreign trade nuclei certain conditions. He adds that if a large part of the trade parsed through free the earnings of the Canal would be diminished, consequently the general trade would be unduly taxed.
