MISS COLLINS WINS THE

CHAMPIONSHIP. (Par Press Association.) Nelson, September 5. The final of the New Zealand ladies’ golf championship was played to-day at the Tahunanui links in glorious golf .weather. The contestants were Miss Collins and Miss Pearce, both of Wellington. The game was expected to produce a most exciting contest, ar both ladies bad played consistently throughout the tournament, finishing up yesterday with*92 in the Coronaton Meilal Match. The result, however, proved to be an easy win for Miss Collins by 5 up and 4 to play. The winner never looked like losing, and played with great confidence in a long game, in which she made very few mistakes. Miss Pearce, who was expected to win. and whose handicap is one, to Miss Collins’ seven, was right off her game. She was nervous from the start, and played raggedly at first. She picked up after losing the first two hole?;, out had no luck. She halved the next four, but never caught Miss Collins. The putting on both sides was weak. The presentation of prizes took place at noon, and most of the golfers left for home by the delayed steamer at 4.20.

MIXED FOURSOMES. The mixed foursomes for Mr. Grant’s trophies were played yesterday afternoon. Just after play had commenced the rain set in. hut notwithstanding this, all the games wore completed. Afternoon tea was supplied hy Mesdaraes Grant and Wake and was greatly appreciated. The competition was won hy Miss Or hell and Mr. R. Spence, from scratch.
