THE LADIES PLAY THE GAME

NORTH WINS INTER-ISLAND

MATCH. (Per Press Aiwsooiattoa.) Nelson, September 4. The ladies’ golf tournament was continued to-day in splendid weather. The semi-finals of the championship produced groat struggles between Miss Burnes and Miss Pearce, and Mrs. Slack and Miss Collins. Mrs. Slack played a hard game throughout, and though once throe down, was all scjuai o at the fifteenth hole. She foozled two shots at the sixteenth and lost it, and the next hole took her four to Miss Collins’ three. Thus the latter won the match by two up and one to play. Miss Pearce and Miss Burnes fought a hard contest hole by hole. 'There uas rarely more than a hole between their scores. Miss Burnes, though not so experienced in championship play as Miss Pearce, ran her to all square at the sixteenth hole. Then Miss Pearce got a splendid mashie shot on to the seventoeth green, while A!iss Buines pulled her ball, requiring three to got close to the pin, and Miss Pearce 1 oled out with a beautiful two. _

The inter-island game was won easily by the North Island by 18 points. ’Mrs. Guy Williams secured the Mellsop Cup for the best three medal rounds, being eight ahead of the next player. The final will be played to-morrow morning. The results were as follows: — Championship Semi-Finals. Miss Collins beat Mrs. Slack, 2 up and one to play. Miss Pearce beat Miss Burnes, 2 up and one to play. Coronation Medal Match.
