HE COMMISSION
(Per Pross Association.) Wellington, May 31. The Education Commission held its first sitting to-day, all members being present except Mr Poland. After the members had been welcomed by Mr Hunan details of procedure were discussed. !.t was decided to sit in Auckland on Tuesday next at 10 o'clock. A committee of three was set up to decide matters relating to calling .witnesses and procedure to be
adopted in connection therewith. When mention was made by one member of the necessity' of expedition Mr Cohen, chairman'; remarked: '"\ : d.> not wish, mcmbcW'to be obsessed with the idea, thai we must report- by. June 25th. If 1 thought that was so I would, not bo here for one hour. We are going to make a job of this." The Commission adjourned till 2 rroloek, when V.v Hogben, Inspector-General of Schools, will be examined.
The Stratford Electrical Supply Company, Ltd., will commence businesfi in their new temporary office, opposite His Majesty's Theatre, in Broadway, to-morrow, Juno Ist. Mr. W. J. Newton nets as Secretary and Engineer.
Don Cameron's injury at yesterday's match was a broken collar-hone, the fracture being dope to the shoulder. He will undoubtedly bo mucli missed at Monday's match.
Arrangements have been made to have the Wanganui-Hnweni train delayed for one hour on June 3rd, to enable the Taranaki footballers to get to Hawcra the same evening after the match.
A final reminder is given that entries for the Doni in ion Dairy Show at Hawera, close with the secretary, Mr. A. M. Conroy, on Saturday. The Show will be oponed by the Prime Minister on Wednesday, June 12, and will remain open on June 13, 14, and
At a meeting of shareholders of the Taranaki Petroleum Co. held at New Plymouth yesterday it was decided to go' into voluntary* liquidation, this being part of the process of disposing of the company's property to the English company. Messrs E. I!. Tribe and H. Bailey were appointed liquidators.
At the meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union last overling it was decided that a match ho played at New Plymouth on Thursday next between Waimatc and a team to he picked from the northern division. The action of the committee in selecting Waimate as the team
to play will undoubtedly cause some pretty'strong criticism, especially among some of the southern clubs. Waimate are hardly in need of the splendid practice such a match will give them.
Following are the hours to be observed, and the duties performed, in the various branches of the Post Office, Stratford, on Monday next (King's .Birthday):—-The postal branch will be open for the delivery of correspondence only, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The telegraph branch open from ',) to 10 a.m., and again fr.pm 7to 8 p.m. The telephone exchange will be riTxm as usual from 7 a.m. to mid-night. On Saturday evening, there, will be a delivery of town letters over the counter between 7 and 8 p.m. All mails for despatch on Monday will close at Sm.m. There will be' only the morning clearance of street posting boxes. There will he no delivery by letter carriers. Incoming mails will be sorted on arrival.
