THE FARMERS' CARNIVAL.
NEW PLYMOUTH WINTEE SHOW. The third Winter Show to ho held by the Taranaki Agricultural Society will take place in .Now Plymouth on Juno otfr, 6th, 7th, and Bth. The now King George Coronation Hall, which has been built by the Society specially for winter shows, will hi used for the first time, and the largo amount of space available, combined with the up-to-date facilities for displaying the exhibits should make the show one of the most successful exhibitions over held by the Society. Tho show will be opened by the Governor, Lord Islington, on tJie sth. As usual, a numoer of valuable trophies have been donated for competition in the principal Sections. In the butter classes there is the Shaw, Savill nntl Albion Shipping Co.'s £25 cup competition (Cup to be held by the Winning factory for twelve months) for the host box of factory butter, suitable for export, 561 b nett (open to
1 all factories in New Zealand). This trophy is at present held by the Taieri and Peninsula Milk Supply Co., Dunedin. In the cheese classes the principal attraction is the cup (valued at ,£25) presented by the Now Zealand Shipping Co., Ltd., for the best crate containing two full-eream New Zealand eheddar choose, .suitable for export (white or coloured). No cheese is to l-,e less than 601 b in weight. The competition is open to all' factories in Now Zealand. The cup is to bo retained only if won for two years in succession by the same factory. The present holder of the cup is the Kaponga Dairy Company. In addition to these two valuable trophies, the Society offers cash prizes in every class. Prom entries received it appears that the display of butter and cheese will l»e high in quality and quantity.
Special attention is directed to the swede competition, for which Messrs E. Griffiths and Co. offer a £lO 10s gold watch or £lO 10s in cash for the best two acres of swedes grown from Sutton's seed and Shamrock turnip manure, supplied by them or by their authorised agents to the competitor. Each competitor must place on exhibition at the show three of the swedes grown on the two acres. In addition to this trophy the Society also offers cash prizes in this class. Another feature of the Show will he the North Island poultry championships, in which champion certificates will be awarded for game bantams and bantams of any other variety. The championships will be competed for under the rules of the N.I.P.P. and C. Association, and no championship will ho awarded unless there are three distinct exhibitors. On each day of the show there will ho special train arrangements, and tickets will be available at reduced fares.
