JERSEY BULL SHOW.
ROYAL JERSEY SOCIETY'S AWARDS. The following extract from "The Jersey Weekly Post'"' will no doubt 1)0 read with interest by dairy fanners throughout the province. It will be noticed that Xoble of Oakland;;' progeny arc much in evidence. Representatives of this strain are owned by Mr C. Goodson, of Hawern, and Messrs Bayly, Healy and Hancock, of Stratford. The article reads:'— The annual Island bull show in connection with the Agricultural Department of the Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Society was held on April 10th at the Society's grounds at Springfield. The weather at first was not by any means ideal, a somewhat strong wind, accompanied by occasional showers, making the eoimlitions rather unpleasant, but this did not affect the attendance, which: was quite equal to 'other-years, and representative of the whole agricultural community. Later in the morning the sun came out, and the last two classes were judged under much more enjoyable'conditions. One of the earliest arrivals was Dr. W. Duret Aubin (President), always keenly interested in the welfare of the Society, while Mr 0. T. Chimsitle, of Wcrribeo Park, Melbourne, a well known fancier and connoisseur of the breed, also watched the proceedings from the ropes which marked ofl the space devoted to the judging. Later in the morning Canon E. Luce (Vice-president), Jurat T. Payn and Judge J. Vaudin also visited the show. As was generally expected this exhibition in point of numbers and quality readied an exceedingly high standard; indeed, it is doubtful whether it has been excelled or even equalled for many years. Breeders all over the Island arc now keenly alive to the value represented by a well-bred and prize-winning bull, with tho result that a great number of really first-class animals are now to be seen; espcially was this the case in tho two-year-old and yearling classes which gave the judges an infinite amount of trouble.
Under the circumstances many a bull which a few years ago would have easily found a place in tlie prize-lists was numbered amongst the also rans, a fact which, while perhaps disappointing to the owner, is a palpable proof of tlie improvement that is bound to follow judicious and intelligent methods in the raising of pedogrec stock. Mr J. A. Perrco, secretary, a most successful exhibitor, was, as, usual, busily superintending tho general arrangements, his task being made lighter by tho practical thoroughness of the arduous detail work accomplished by Mr I. B. Nicholson, who, on these occasions, is quite indispensable. 7 Luncheons and light refreshments were supplied in a marquee erected on the ground by Mr G. T. Le Couilliard, of the Cacsarea Hotel, Cattle Street. Tho parade took place at 3 o'clock before a large gathering. Tlie officials were : Judges.—Classes 1 and -I : Messrs J. A. Falle and W. J. Mallet. Classes 2 and 3: Mr P. J. Ahier. Ecfereo Judge.—Mr C. W. Journoaux. (directing stewards), J. S. Lc Grcsley, (directing stewards), J. S. Croslcy. '!'. R. De Gruchy, J. W. Labey, and A. F. Noel.
