CORRESPONDENCE.
THAT WATER RATE.
(To the Editor "Stratford Post.")
Sir.—Your correspondent "Nemo No. 2" is of opinion that' my letter' was an unjustifiable attack on Cr. King; I think otherwise, because \ merely quoted that Councillor's figures ' and remarks, and have only stated facts. "Nemo No. 2's" figure; are inaccurate insofar as 31st March, 11/if is concerned, this year's balancesheet not being available. At thai
date the water account was in credit £Wi 2s sd. On £4OOO loan account the position was—Balance 61172 Ids ."sd, refund of railage £2 3s 1d—£1474 13t Cd. Expended £1359 17s, railage £SO 17s lid, bank charges 10s: total £] Ml. ds lid, leaving a credit balance of £33 8s 7d. If, would be bard to find a deficit here. The "tag" at foot of balance-sheet reads (from the AuditorGeneral): "Special rates collected for and applicable only to the payment o f interest on leans have unlawfully been used for other purposes." Will this and the usual "tag" appear this year? Is it not time the "tags" vanished? In reply to oilier queries, ! am of opinion Cr. Sangsfcer could not see his way to "wobble" in voting, notwithstanding his convictions. Would "Nemo No. •2" like to see the Mayor "wobble" and give his casting vote contrary to the motion he moved-' He did quite right in casting his second vote in favour of the' resolution previously adopted by the Council.— 1 am, etc. NEMO.
