Wellington, May 24. The Ron. G. IV. Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, received a deputation to-night from the Rangitikei Racing Club, asking'for a restoration of the totalisator permit taken away as a, result of tho Racing Commission’s report. It was pointed out that the Rangitikei Club was fourteenth in importance in New Zealand. It had been in existence since 1851. Theat ten dance at the last summer meeting was 4500. Bulls, where the Club’s course is, and Marten would never amalgamate, as suggested by the Commission, those towns having nothing in common. The Club had recently spent £B6OO on land and buildings. The Minister, in reply, said that the matter would lie considered by tlie Cabinet. If ft was decided that the question of permits was to be reviewed, there could be no doubt that the case of tho Rangitikei Club must be entitled to very careful consideration.
