DISAPPOINTED BURGLARS. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, May 24. An unsuccessful attempt was made last night to break open the safe in the premises of the Waitemata .Fruitgrowers' Association in Fort Street by the use of explosives. The constable on duty heard a report and saw smoke issuing from an upper window. The police searched tino building but there was no trace of the burglars. Presumably they had loft awaiting the burning of the fuse which was evidently used to fire the explosive. The safe was only slightly damaged. A STIFF SENTENCE. Auckland, May 21.
