ATHENS AND ROME.
0 PARALLEL WITH AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND. THE WORLD WATCHING US, Melbourne, May 20. At the conference of Surveyorsfionoral of Australia and Now Zealand, Air O’Malley, in opening the proceedings, said that he was specially gratified at New Zealand being represented. His own opinion was that New Zealand would ultimately become part of the Commonwealth. If this would have the. effect of arresting her march towards democracy ho would rather that she did not become a partner of the Commonwealth. New Zealand was at present in the world’s lead in economics and humanitarian laws. The eyes of the world were turned to her first and to Australia second, as in older times they first turned to Athens and then to Rome.
