Work mi the Lake Coleridge hytlroelcctric scheme is proceeding steadily. The limne] is in 200 feet, 60 feet from the main ventilating shaft, which is now down 61 feet. The water supply is well forward, and excavation for the reservoir is proceeding.
A conference of the Society of Friends, uliie'a has been sitting in Christchurch during the last few days, closed to-night with an address given liy Miss Margaret Thorp, of Liverpool, on the Young Friends' movement in Great Britain, at Woodbrook and Swanwich settlements. It was shown that there was a general and deeprooted desire on the part of the younger portion of the society to realise to tlhe fullest extent the life of spiritual power which so distinguished the founders of the society, and their true followers in later history. Other speakers Followed, showing how a wave of new life was spreading to the Southern Hemisphere, and all wcrr urged to do their share in helping its advance.

The Hon. A. M. Myers paid a flying visit to Ir.vercargil] to-day by special train, accompanied by Mr T. Ronayne /general manager), Mr 11. li. Jackson (loco, engineer), Mr A. J. McCmlie (district engin.ee!'), Mr C. A. Piper (traffic superintendent), and Mr H. MacAnclrew (district engineer). The party inspected the powollising plant at Kew, whore the sleepers undergo a process. Dining the afternoon Mr "Myers received a number of deputations, and in response to one from the Chamber of Commerce, announced that the new time-table- for the Bluff section would come into operation on Jnlv Ist.
