PROGRESS.
Tlio formal starting of the Slvatford Electrical Supply Company's now plani last evening, in tine presence of a representative gathering of visitors,
was an event of more than ordinary importance from several points oi
view. It was, of coarse, indicative of tin 1 advance Stratford is making and also that the Directors of tin
Company are going to give the town the best they can in the way of light and power. It was also telling evidence of how good Taranaki's crude oil is, for the smoothest running and the most perfect combustion were obtained by the use of crude petroleum obtained direct from t'he flowing wells at New Plymouth—direct from Nature's storehouse itself. Indeed, Mr Hill (the expert who has had much experience in such matters and has started many hig plants on their working career) stated most emphatically that he found the engine ran better on crude Taranaki oil than it did 0:1 the refined article. Further, the installation is a practical object lesson at our own doors of what Diesel's marvellous invention means, and how very possible it is for the oil-fed engine with its many advantages and its great economy to supersede the engines dependent on King Coal for their power and energy. Those who were present at last night's function could not but feel that the present is not a time to stand still; we must go forward. The installation of the Electrical Supply Company's new plant is a step forward and an important one, on which tine directors are to be congratulated.
