Twenty-four square miles of timber was burned by forest fires in Oregon and Washington States. Many lumber mills were destroyed. Villages were threatened. Large forces of firefighters are at work. At Ironwood, Michigan, thirteen men were buried in a cave-in of the Morrie mine. Two bodies were recovered but there is no hope for the rest. Victoria (8.C.), May 11.
