Company to follow. HOBART-BLUFF RECORD. (Per Press Association i Invercargill, May 13. The Union Company’s new steamer Maunganui, which was recently placed on the intercolonial run, has accomplished a record trip from Hobart to the Bluff, the latter port being reached at 11 o’clock this morning. The MaUnganni did not get away from Melbourne until 6.30 o’clock on the morning of Thursday last, and arrived at Hobart at 2 p.m. the following day. She got clear of the Tasmanian port at about midnight, and reached the Bluff as above. The Maunganui covered the 930 miles between Hobart and the Bluff in 57 hours 20 minutes. This eclipses the previous record held by tl ie Maheno. The Maunganui’s average speed for the full journey works out at 15.27 knots, wfiich is a noteworthy performance, considering that only three of the four hollers with which she is fitted were used.
The Maungamii experienced fine weather conditions on the run down from the Victorian capital to Hobart. On leaving the latter port moderate seas and northerly winds were encountered until Saturday night, thence fine weather until arrival at the Bluff.
