COLONIAL SUGAR COMPANY. Sydney, April 30. At the half-yearly meeting of the Colonial Sugar Company, the report showed profits in Australia, of £l2O, 892, and in Fiji and New Zealand of £105,000, to which must he added a balance of £123,443 leaving available £319,015. A dividend at tho rate of 5 per cent for the half year has been declared. Absorbing £150,000, with a payment ri a bonus of 5s per share;, equal to £37,590, leaving a credit to profit and loss account of £151,545. The chairman stated that the scarcity of sugar throughout the world would last for a few mouths, but the position was very uncertain. Both in Queensland and Fiji the weather conditions were affecting the next crop. There had been an adverse sharp drought, followed by cyclonic storms. The crops would be below tho average. The 191.1 crop was produced at a moderate cost, considering tho disturbed industrial conditions of sale contravened a recent Act, by the allowance of a higher discount to who]c-s;de firms doing a larger share of the trade than their neighbours who cannot read) the same standard. If the court makes an alteration in existing conditions there wohld be some disturbance of trade, but it did not seem possible that this would damage business in any way. NEW ZEALAND APPLES. Wellington, April 30. A cablegram which has been received by the Prime Minister states that the shipment of apples by the Kaipara from New Zealand, consisting of 5000 cases arrived in London in excellent condition. In the past tho Government paid a bonus of Id. per lb and in the present instance the Government offered the officers of the steamer a bonus of £SO if the fruit arrived in good condition. There arc at present in New Zealand orders for 20,000 cases of apples for the Argentine.
