LATE LOCALS.
The Wellington Rugby Union have agreed to send a representative team to play a special match at Hawera with the Taranaki Reps, on June 12th. On that (fate the Hawera Show will be in progress.
Henry Herbert, one of the men working on the route of the Strat-ford-Te Koura railway, at Kohuratahi, war. severely injured on. Thursday last, his chest being crushed. The injured man did not receive medical attention till Saturday, when, on the arrival of the Toko train, ho was taken to the Hospital, and attended to by Dr. Steven.
Li common with many other friends, we regret very much to learn of the rather" unexpected decease of Mr. William Brewer, of Waitotara, one of the best known and most esteemed settlers in the whole of tire d : strict. Mr. Brewer was apparently in normal health, and the advices ■ received in Stratford do not state; how the end occurred. The late Mr. Brewer is father- to Mr. Sam Brewer, the wellknown Maka.hu settler.
Mr. George Pratt, of Warwick Road, while taking his milk to the factory this morning, fell from the cart, and was severely injured. The accident occurred at the corner' of Cordelia and Celia Streets, and a rise in the road at that spot is supposed to have caused Mr. Pratt to lose his balance. Tire injured man was immediately conveyed to the Hospital, where Dr. Steven attended him. Besides an injured instep, over which one of the wheels of the cart passed, and a bruised shoulder, Mr. Pratt was found to have sustained a severe fracture of the legbone close to the knee.
