a SEVEN THOUSAND JEWS IN THE SULTAN’S GARDEN. IN MEN AG ABIE CAGES. Fox, April 26. Seven thousand Jews took refuge in the Sultan’s garden. They were shelterless, except for the empty cages of the Sultan’s menagerie. , VIG OROUS~MEASURES. (Received 27, 9.10 a.m.) ‘ Fez, April 26. During the mutiny two French lieutenants and two veterinary surgeons were barricaded in a hotel room without windows. When the door yielded to the mob ]thcy escaped into a sewer leading to the river. They were foodless and waterless for forty-eight hours. TThey emerged in safety. The Sherecfm troops at Fez have been disbanded and replaced by occupation troops. The new Pasha is energetically arresting the guilty and restoring order. The French losses included 65 killed. A squadron of 175 Shoreelian cavalry at Snk-el-Arba deserted with horses, arms and baggage.
