SOCIAL AT KOHURATAHI.
A large gathering of sellers tobk place at Kohuratahi on Wednesday, the occasion being a farewell social given to Mr Coxhead, who is leaving the district. During the course of the evening, Mr Roberton, on behalf of the settlers, presented Mr Coxhead with a silver tea and coffee service. He remarked upon the high esteem in which Mr Coxhead was held by his fellow settlers. Mr Roberton in the course of his remarks stated that Mr Cnxacadliad always shown a keen interest in sport, and in matters affecting the welfare -of his fellow settlers. He also referred to Ids lavish hospitality. Mr Coxhead,' in reply, said that he was leaving tiic district, though not for good. He had done his -share of the hal'd work, and was now passing it on to the younger people. He had come to the district expecting hard work, and had not been disappointed. He was now going to take a rest, for how long he did not know, not having made any plans; hut he did not think Whanga would see him again. He had spent a pleasant time whilst in the district but thought that lie would -spend the remainder of Ins days in a more congenial climate. During the evening songs were sung by the Misses Hill and Wilson and Messrs Fawkner, Bnttomley, Natzke, Cleland and Hill. Dancing was kept going until a late hour of the morning. The ladies of the district supplied a splendid collation, which was much appreciated. Mr J. B. Hine, M.P., who was present, received a warm reception from the settlers present.
