CRICKET RULES ALTERED

(Per Press Association;) Christchurch, April 28. The New Zealand Cricket Council last night carried by 14 to 7 a motion by Poverty Bay deleting sub-section c of rule 7, the effect being-to permit a player to play for a district only if resident in the district for six months prior to a match. The rules of the Hawke Shield were amended to provide that the shield will be held by the winner of a tournament to be arranged annually; and abolishing the system of challenge matches. Mr Raphael, secretary of the Council for thirteen years, expressed a wish to retire but the Council decided to request him to retain his office.
