OUT EAST.
(By Our Travelling Reporter.) The Whangamomona hotel is expected to lie opened on May sth. Five horses and a wagon belonging to Messrs Court and Cottier backed over and fell into a gully about 80 feet deep on the Prospect Road on Tuesday. Fortunately neither the driver, Mr W. Blair, nor the horses were hurt, both the driver and the team having a lucky escape. The Domain Board met on Tuesday evening last. Several schemes for the improvement of the Domain were decided upon. Messrs Robinson and Christopher will shortly commence the subdivision of Whitianga Block No. 2. This news will greatly interest the settlors in this district, as the block is one eminently suitable for subdivision into small holdings. The Whanga cheese factory closed down on the 20th hist. The meeting of suppliers will shortly take place to make arrangements for the forthcoming season. Mr Bullard, Commissioner of Crown Lands, left Whanga on Wednesday en route for Maticre. The ballast train was stuck up in the Whanga tunnel on Tuesday afternoon owing to a truck jumping the metals. A considerable slip had taken place at the Mangore Road end of the tunnel. It is stated that the Public Works Department proposes to lay a tramline on the main road through A\ bangs. If carried out this will be a great relief to the road.
