Percy Field, the victim of the motor car accident, had only been in Longburn fair nine having come from Waiwera South, where his parents reside. A statement is made by Downes to the effect that neither he nor the victim hoard or noticed the car till it was right on them. Field was carried about, thirty paces' Downes cannot account for the accident. J. W. Milner was the driver of the car and he had three passenger's. In a statement to the police they declare that they were travelling slowly, having just passed a railway crossing. The horn was sounded and the car was on the right .ride of the road. They also cannot account foi the accident. They found the car suddenly on two men one of whom jumped right in front. An inquest before a. jury will he held tomorrow. Auckland, April IS. In the Police Court Lofty Richards, John Weston, Charles Taylor. Robert Phhter and Daniel Twohill all pleaded guilty to keeping gaming houses. They wore convicted and fined £75 each. Leonard Andrews, clerk in the two firte't-named, warfined £25, ,the persons found on the premises being fined £1 cache. Wellington, April 18. The Chief Justice gave his reserved judgment to-day in .an involved native land case in which distinct allegations of fraud, wore made. The parties’ were Martha MeGrerfir (formerly Martha Maliupuku) and the District Land Registrar and William Harris and Thomas Harris, sheep farmers. His Honor held that the lease to dofondants Harris and also flic confirmation were both mil and void. Defendants must have known fl at they wore acting in a. way morally wrong in obtaining the lease. Judgment was given for plaintiff with costs. ,
