At f tlio request .of a, largo number of (representative electors, Mr W. I*. Kirkwood is offering himself as a kamdidatc for the Stratford Mayoridty, and as Mr IR. McK. Morisan 'has •withdrawn 'and there are no further nominations, the contest will he between Messrs Kirkwood and McAllister. ,MV Moriso'n’s reasons for withdrawal .are not stated. Mr McAllister’s candidature was referred to yesterday, and though Mr Kirkwood’s no,mo ha's been mentioned, it wUs only last evening that be definitoly derided to stand. He is a young man of undoubted ability, possessing progressive ideas, and as an evidence of bis ,popularity it may be mentioned was recently elected President of the Strat/ford A. and P. Association. Though M,r McAllister is a strong Candidate., possessing las he does very universal esteem in Stratford, t'ho fight should ho a good one. and we do not expect to see either man win by la, very large majority. One thing we do sincerely bruit and that is 't.ha.t tie election will he fought: on the merits of the mediates and on purely municipal onestion, and that Hie all-pervading lirenring question will ho quite put on one side for on.ee at anvrnte, _
