A steel-clad motor-car carrying contraband tobacco valued at a thousand sterling dashed across the frontier at Hazebrouck, from Belguim. Officials, with hot rifle fire, riddled the tyres.
The tobacco was jettisoned, and the cm- returned to Belgium.
