(Received 30, 10.55 a.m.) New York, March 29. i Unless the coal miners and operators agree, the shutting down of works involving half a million men •has been arranged for Monday. Tne miners’ agreement expires on Monday and the men refuse to resume on the old scale of wages. If a shut-down occurs the ‘men will lose a million dollars 'daily in wages. The prospects of settlement are poor. A NOVEL EXPERIMENT. (Received 30, 11.5 a.m.) London, March. 29. .Mr Coghlan ■ is arranging to distribute Now South Wales charity in the potteries district, where many are on the verge of starvation. Importers are supplying produce at cost price. A large colliery has arranged to experiment with Sir William Ramsay’s scheme for the production of electricity at the pit mouth. NEW ZEALAND HELP. Dunedin, March 30. United services are to be held in the various city churches to-morrow, when collections will bo taken up in aid of the starving children in England
