GUNITES v. RIFLEITES.

(By Bisley.) The Stratford rifle range was the scene-,-of great activity yesterday; afternoon 'when the rifle and gnirt’clubs met to try their skill at hitting '(or trying to hit) a small black object at several hundred , yards distance. The ladies (God bless them) wore there too, doing their utmost with the aid of the tea cup to cheer and fortify the contestants. The tea cup was backed up withh all the good things that are usually to be found at an afternoon tea. At 2 p.m. the conflict of skill was started by a rifleman leading off, and was continued till G p. in., when the last man arose from the mound with a smile of satisfaction on his face. The gun men were given all the aid that was necessary for them to find the bull. One well-known rifleman who was coaching his man allowed him to make a bull on the wrong target—not only once but several times. The quiet man of the rifle team made a possible at 500yds. There were several 34’s put on by the riflemen at 500yds. The gun men made very creditable i scores, considering that some had never done any rifle shooting before. Gunner Jury was the top scorer for the gun men. Rifleman Jackson was top scorer with 68 for the riflemen. The riflemen have established a lead of 194. But when the gun men gel them on those clay birds that 194 will he a thing of the past. Members of both teams tender their heartiest thanks to the ladies for their presence and afternoon tea on the range. Following are the scores:— Rifle Team,
