Various public works being carried on in Gisborne are a fair indication of the rapidly advancing prosperity of the town. The municipal electric light and power was formally switched on to-night. At a public ceremony it was announced last evening that the laying of the rails for the Electric trains would bo commenced on Monday week, preliminary work in connection With the extension of the breakwater has been; completed. A comr pany has been formed to construct a modern opera house, and another theatre is also to be built, making three for the town. Work this end of ,the Napier-Gisborne railway line is , being'pushed rapidly ahead, and the ; Borough sewerage w.orks on an extensile scale are Almost completed. building trade is exceptionally husv at' 'the present,” reports the Borough , building inspector. '‘‘lf all t the Vorks anticipated are brought out, bur town will be the busiest in proportion in the Dominion.
