SERIES NEAR HASTINGS. (Per Press Association ) Hastings, March 14. A serious motor accident occurred last night, when Mr. Norman WelU wood’s car, driven by the owner, and carrying his friends, J. Holden, junr., and George Stevenson, returning from the Napier Park races, crashed into the “Hawke’s Bay Tribune” car, proceeding from Hastings to Fernhill. The “Tribune” car was driven by Whitlock, junr., and with him were A. E. O’Meara and W. Cook, dentists, of Hastings. The drivers of both ears, and Holden, were not hurt. O’Meara sustained a compound fracture of the left leg. Cook suffered a severely lacerated leg and injured his kneecap. Both were taken to the hospital, where they will remain for probably two months. Stevenson suffered slight concussion, but proceeded home. Both cars were badly smashed. This was but one of a series of car accidents. Two collided on a bridge at Pakipaki, on Tuesday night. One was owned by Franklin, and the other was driven by Martin Rophia. Both drivers were cut, but were not seriously injured. Three cars coming from the races last night were crossing the Pakowhai Bridge, when the leading car stopped, and the other two collided with it. No one was hurt .but the ears were damped.
