THE LATE MR J. R. MACKAY

'i'lie interment of the late John Ileay Mackay took place at the Kopuatama Cemetery yesterday afternoon. A very large gathering assembled at Dr. Paget’s house, from which place the procession started at 2 p.m. Immediately following the hearse came the late Mr. Mackay’s own motor car, driven by Dr. Paget, and piled with a magnificent lot of wreaths and floral tributes, bearing evidence of the wide esteem in which deceased was held. Many other motor cars took part in the procession. The services at the house .and at the graveside were impressively conducted by the llev. W. A. Butler, M.A., and the chief mourners were Mr. Joseph Mackay, M.A. ,(father of deceased) and Messrs. V/. 11. Mackay, Frank Mackay, C. Mackay, J. Mackay, and P. Mackay (brothers). The bearers were Dr. Paget and Messrs. F. N. Fussed, E. C. Robinson, W. H. H. Young, AY. G. Malone, and T. C. Fookes. The Stratford Racing Club sent a beautiful wreath, and was specially represented also by the President (Mr. A. AY. Budge), Vice-Pre-sident (.Air. AY. H. Young), Messrs. G. D. Hunter, E. 13. Stohr, AY. P. Kirkwood, W. Morison, J. R. L. Stanford, S. Pitt, I). J. Malone, and J. F. AYatson (members of the Executive) and many stewards and members. The Taranaki Jockey Club was specially represented by Messrs. C. M. hopper (chairman), E. P. Webster (secretary). and R. Cock, while sympathetic messages were received from the Taranaki Jockey Club, the Wanganui Racing Club, and other bodies controlling the sport with which the late Mr. Mackay was so intimately associated. Beautiful wreaths were’ also officially sent by the Stratford Lawn Tennis Club, the Stratford Football Club, and the Stratford Club. Mr. Mackay being a member of each of the clubs named. The tributes from private friends were very numerous, and came from all parts of the North Island.
