The population of the metropolitan area at the end of last year was 651,800, an increase of 20,200. During the year the birth rate was tiie highest recorded. The revenue collected from the Port of Sydney last year was £373,700, an increase of nearly £47,000. Mr. .Nesbitt, the Town Clerk, is a passenger by the Moldavia. Ho spends five weeks in Now Zealand. Arrived: Queen Elizabeth, from Wellington. Maunganui, arrived last night, after a record trip of three days two and a half hours. The weather conditions .were adverse, otherwise the vessel would have done' bolter.
Mr. Holman has taken the intitial steps in the Assembly to introduce a. Bill increasing members’ salaries to £SOO a year.
