iPer Press Association.! Auckland, March 9. Aii extraordinary occurrence occurred in tiie bar of the Occidental Hotel last night. It is stated that five youths entered the bar, and after having drinks, expressed some grievance against'a Wliangarei barman, who happened to be in the bar. It is alleged that they set upon him and handled him very roughly. They drove off in a motor-car, but returned subsequently and asked for drink, which the barman objected to supply, in consequence of their behaviour on the previous visit. They became abusive, and an Auckland resident, stepped in from another part of the hotel and advised them to be quiet. It is alleged that they set upon him, knocked him on tiie floor, and kicked him. The proprietor of tiie hotel appearing on the scene, they again decamped in their motor-car, which was identified as a hired vehicle. The police are now on the track. Cambridge, March 8. A well attended meeting of stock breeders and exhibitors was held yesterday, Mr John Fisher, president of the Waikato Central Agicultural Association, being in the chair, to consider matters in connection with better and faster train arrangements for stock intended' for exhibition at ■.agricultural shows and reciprocal entries between the members of agripultural societies. This was 1 the, outcome of an action taken by the Mauawatu Agricultural Association. MiPerry, secretary, addressed the gathering, lucidly explaining both propositions and showing the benefits contained. The meeting warmly supported both matters, and adopted resolutions to give effect there to. The Auckland, Frankton, Hamilton,, and (Cambridge, .Societies were urged to appoint committees to act in (conjunction with the Manawatu Association on the railway question. .The Waikato Central (Agricultural Association’s annual show opened to-day.
