Davidson, Glasgow, to Mr Newton King:— Continental Butter,s. ; —The market this week has' shown a decided imj provemont and a good steady demand has been experienced; stocks' have been entirely cleared, at prices practically the same as last week, the official fall diii Copenhagen notwithstanding. • Telegraphic advices from Copenhagen yesterday indicate that the market there is very nuich firmer and the quotation to-day has been declared unchanged. Danish and Swedish; The total arrivals of Danish this week show a decrease of 872 casks. There was a good active demand for all classes of butter and very little has been left over unsold. Prices realised show very little change compared with last week, choicest qualities being quoted 131 sto 1355. Siberian: The arrivals this week did not total 1000 casks. There have been a few small parcels of fresh made winter butter on offer, and these have met with a ready sale at 128 s to 130 s. Cold stored ■last season’s butter is now in very small compass, ordinary finest may ■bo quoted 124 s to 1265, secondary descriptions 118 s to ;1225. Colonial Butters.—Australian: The only arrival this week lias been the s-s. Otranto with 44,693 boxes on board; the s.s. Norseman, which was due beginning of this week, is late, and will not dock before Saturday, so that her butter will not be available; befoi-e next week. . The market at the beginning of the week was very firm, and prices showed an advance of ,Is to 2s; on Tuesday the demand slackened off sonie'wliab, and yosteiv day the market was decidedly weaker, importers being willing to shade prices 2s to 3s per cwt. in order to effect sales.. To-day strictly,,choicest, qua!-, ity ..is obtainable at 128 s, exceptionally Is more being made for small parcels of favourite dairies. iSccondaiy descriptions continue very dear in ; comparison with 'choicest,, good qnal- ' ity being obtainable at 124 s up to 1 1265. At the moment of writing the market apjlsars to be a little steadier, I buyers showing more; inclination‘to op- : orate. The official prices published to-morrow will likely show higher prices than the above, but this :is ' explained by the fact that the official prices are ranged over the week, and sales made at the beginning at good prices are included. New Zealand: There is still a fair quantity of butter landed cx s.s. Athenic to dispose of. f lic demand has been rather quiet, buyers refusing to pay the high prices which importers early in the week were demanding. To-day strictly choicest quality cannot be quoted at more than 1325. The s.s. Renin era is now due in London, but Ijer butters will not bo available before next week.
