HORTICULTURAL SHOW.
THE TARIKI FIXTURE. The committee of Tariki Horticultural Snow must be complimented on the result of their ninth annual fixture at Tariki Hall on Thursday. A splendid lot of entries, both as regards quantity and quality, were received, and the staging accommodation was taxed to its utmost. However, tlie committee and stewards dealt with the entries in a most able maimer, and everything was .shown olf to the best advantage, enabling the visitors to get the full benefit of the exhibits. The outside of the hall was occupied by the vegetable section, and special-mention must be made of this claSs. Taranaki soil is evidently not behind other parts of the Dominion when production of first-class vegetables is considered, as the exhibition at Tariki was worthy of place at ally show in the country. The hall looked very gay and dainty with the cut flowers and pot plants, while the cookery section made one feel hungry indeed. However, this feeling was provided for by the dispensation of afternoon tea by the ladies’ committee, who were kept very busy. Tile photograpny section attracted the attention of all, as growers of flowers, palms, or vegetables, and makers of dainty morsels, all could appreciate the beauties of nature, as shown on the photographs. This section is worth encouraging. Numbers of Stratford residents sent competing exhibits, and were very successful indeed in their various classes. In cut flowers Mrs. Arden repeated her Stratford performance, and carried off points prize, while Mrs. James secured like honours in the cookery. Mr. Kilpatrick annexed most points for his'fruit, and Mr. F. H. Wilkie secured points honours in photography. W. Jakes was a hard man to beat in the vegetable section, easily securing points prize; his exhibits being excellent. The ■names of (i. H. Boyles and F. H. Wilkie, also, appeared frequently in' the vegetable list. Mrs, Petrie secured several firsts and seconds, and Mr. Davis scored with his dahlias; Airs. Reader was successful in the decorative classes. The visitors speak highly of the courtesy of the secretary (Mr. Harry J. Stratford) and the president (Mr. I J.' Thei-kelscn). • t ! ,: - 1 ' ■ ■
