DOUGLAS NOTES.

(From our own Correspondent.) A very pleasant social gathering was hold at the homo of Mr and Mrs Seed on Wednesday in connection with the Primitive Methodist Church. The event took the form of a garden party and concert, but owing to the inclemency". of the weather the arrangements were somewhat upset, and many people were prevented from being present.. However, the host was made of a had job, and Mrs Seed kindly throw the house open for the (fonveiticifcq of visitors. After the circuit quarterly meeting a spoil of fine weather favoured ns, and outdoor games were indulged in. A splendid tea was provided by many friends, and this was heartily enjoyed by a fairly largo company. At 8.15 p.m. a grand concert was opened and presided over by Mr J. B. Hine, M.P. The-chair-man made a few happy remarks touching upon Church work and the Christian calling—its aims, its trials, its opportunities, and its rewards. An excellent programme was then proceeded with, consisting of pianoforte solo, songs, duets, recitations, and a chorus, each item being accorded well-deserv-ed applause. After the concert, motions of thanks to the host and hostess, the chairman, and all who had on any way helped in the effort were carried by acclamation. Our sympathies are with- those who were unable to he present, but wo know that they will he pleased to learn that the enterprize was a. success. We hope for better weather next time so that the many friends of the church will ho enabled to partake in any social function that may ho organised.
