The wjjpather and the men were at their ‘best. Early in tlie day a baffling mirage spoilt the .shooting to some extent, •tort later on, banting a few (spasmodic gpsts, conditions were almost perfect. ■/The Otago Match, of 800yds, was the- ‘.first Vof the long range events in the championship, and the character of the work put in by the firemen needs no further description than to say that thei'e were no fewer than ■seven possibles, which led to the equal division of the first .seven prizes. There were several all-buts, and a multitude of 48’s and 47’s were counted cut. •Amongst those securing all-huts, in addition to' those in the prize list attached, were: Burns (Karori), Ross (Bluff), Munro (Muriliiku), six in all.
The -Nelson Match of two .stages, 800 and 900yds/ showed a continuance of . good .shooting. At 800yds Falk nor (Wellington), N. Willoughby (Bate'no), Lovoday (Wocdville), and Marshall (Karori) made possibles; Lane made a possible at 900yds, but with only 37 at 800yds, ho was out of '(’ho prize list. Marshall broke down at 900yds, and he also wa? out of,At. . W. Cox ' (Auckland) and 0. Soper < (Napier) each got 49, and there were many other good scores. The Hawke’s Bay and Taranaki .Matches will be fired to-morrow, these ’being the last of the championship ssfliies save the King’s Prize, in which the 50 highest aggregates fire off at 3.30 on Thursday.
