TUNA SCHOOL.

ANNUAL SCHOOL PICNIC AND CONCERT. SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The annual picnic and concert was hold on Thursday, 29th February. The afternoon was'spent in the usual races, jumping events, etc., for the children, together with some for the adults. A good number were present, as the day was on the whole good. Although the night set in badly, a large number were present at the concert in the evening. Mr Rogers, member of the Education Board, presided and distributed the prizes to' tho children, who had obtained 70 par cent and over at the teachers’ examination during 19,11. The items -of tho concert were wholly given by the school children, who had been splendidly trained by tho assistant mis tress, Miss Bartlett. Special mention must be made of the excellence oh Master Eric Bloxham’s (7 years of age) recitation of “John Maynard,’; which received a woll-doserved encore, and of Master James Wright’; rendering of “La-ska.,” Loth with pianoforte accompaniment. Much merriment was caused by Master Alan Auld and company’s song and patter on “How to Make a Speech” (encored). The second part- of tho programme was entirely taken up with the operetta “Tho White Garland,” perform ed by -about thirty children. For thi: the stage was prettily decorated wi'ti tree ferns and lights and the fantastic costumes worn by the children wore ■seen to good advantage. The role o: the “Fairy Queen” was taken by Mir: Lily Plews, who in her shining drera locked and acted her part gracefully. She was attended by several littl girls in fairy-like costumes. The sing ing and-acting throughout were mum above the average, and Miss Bartlel deserves all credit for so successful!.' training the children. Each item wa; accompanied by Miss Auld at the piano.

At the close Mr Hathaway proposer a vote of thanks to the two ladios whe had been responsible for tho enter tainment, and Mr Rogers for presidin' the vote being passed unanimously.
