HEAVIER PENALTIES NEEDED. (Received 4, 10.35 a.m.) London, Marclv 3. Tiiere is an outcry against the suffragettes’ demonstration. The newspapers urge a. i>rosecution under the Conspiracy Act, thus giving heavy punishments. / Mr. Edward Fordham, a London Magistrate, complains of the tendency to inflict light punishments. In sentencing Mrs. .BankhurstJ 1 the ■Magistrate said -the; suffragettes brought the 'coimtrV to a state which was not allowed in any civilised land. If the law was ineffective it nnist be amended.
