A gang of men were engaged discharging the coal barque Thora at tne wharf, wlien a labourer named Joe O'Conneli evidently tripped over a coil of rope and fell through the hatch, 20 feet, on io the coal. He was removed to the hospital, suffering from concussion, and his condition is regarded as serious. . . Wanganui, March 1. At the Harbour Board meeting tonight a notice of motion was tabled to the effect that the Board rescind its previous resolution to promote,a Bill to raise a loan of £250,000 for harbour improvement, and that it take steps to raise £IOO,OOO instead. This means the temporary abandonment of the big scheme at the Heads. Tie new loan is to be used for the purchase of a dredge to deepen the i r.ver channel to the town. ,
Feilding March 2. Feilding, who had .served a term of four consecutive years, died suddenly this morning from heart disease. He was a solicitor by profession. Wellington, March 1. The unknown man who was knocked down by a tramcar in Willis Street on Thursday evening and had his skull fractured, died to-night. No evidence as to his identity has .been forthcoming. . , y Mona Jupp, 15 months old, the child of Claud Thomas Jupp, was playing with a boy in Alexandra Hall this morning, when she touched a large platform weighing two owt., winch was standing on one ma against the wall. The platform fell on the infant's head, fracturing the base of the skull. She died soon nflcr her admission to hospital.
