AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS. Sydney, February 22. The six players havo failed to accept Gregory, Hazlitt, and McLaren have been selected to replace Trumper, Armstrong and Cotter. . The other selections remain in abeyance.
During the early part of the day, the Premier (Mr McGowen) and Warner fruitlessly tried to secure a settlement of the cricket trouble. Hill, having only received his invitation on Saturday, has ten days from then to consider the position. The other five accepted, but reserved the right to withdraw if anything arose prior to the departure of the team rendering such withdrawal necessary.
The Board of Control insisted on a definite and unqualified acceptance. Hansford’s place will be filled tomorrow. Carkeek now becomes first wicket-keeper in place of Carter. Webster, of South Australia, will probably be chosen as second wicket-keep-er. It is expected that Hill will decide to stand by the other malcontents.
