(Per Press Association.) Auckland, February 20. The unexpected explosion of a ship’s rocket on the stranded steamer Knight of St. George at Nukualofa killed Norman Middleton and seriously injured W. Keefe, recent arrivals from Auckland. Masterton, February 20. The coach-building and engineering business of J. C. Ewington was burned down at 1 o’clock this morning and plant and goods valued at several thousand pounds were destroyed. Twenty-two men are thrown out of work. Blenheim, February 20. The police yesterday afternoon received information that the body of a man had been found in Picton harbour.The face was unrecognisable. Correspondence in his pocket and other marks identified the body as that of B. des Forges, the missing Blenheim gasworks clerk. Wellington, February 19. The results of the South' Kensington science and art examinations, which were conducted in New Zealand by the Education Department in June and July of last year, have now come to hand. Following are the results of the examinations held in local centres :—New Plymouth : Freehand drawing—Amy M. Benry, second class pass. Model drawing—Edith A. Arthur, second class pass. Geometrical drawing— Edith A. Arthur, second class pass. The following passed in five or more subjects of the Senior Civil Service examination: S. Gibson and A. Robertson ; passed in four subjects: J. McMahon and W. Paoru; in thr.ee subjects: K. Ereatara, T. Kururangil and G. Rogers; in two subjects: N. Dinnis. Gore, February 19. A motor car accident occurred between Mataura and Brydone yesterday. A car, driven by D. Corcoran, Waikaka, met a farmer named Ryan on horseback. The horse shied and collided with the car, which had slowed down, Tho car capsized and the man Ryan sustained a- broken leg, Mr Francis (Corcoran’s father-in-law) a broken rib, and Mrs Corcoran abra-r sions to the head. Messrs Ryan and Francfe were conveyed to the hospital.
