SWIMMING NOTES.

(By Ampin Bios.)

The commitee of the Swimming Club will meet this evening. As the season is very advanced and expedition is desirable in deciding the programme of events which has been mapped out it is desired that as many as possible of the committee may put in an appearance at the meeting. It would also be well if those ox officio members of the committee who can make it convenient could turn up.'

Swimmers, new and ok], old and young, are reminded that entries for the Champion Cup close this evening. They should make themselves acquainted with the conditions of competition and should enter and compete in large numbers, even if only as an indication of appreciation of the generosity of Mr J. Masters in providing a fine cup for competition. A programme has been received of a carnival to be Held in Hawera on the evening of February 23rd (Friday of this week). Open races of 50, 100 and 150yds are provided, and these should give Stratford swimmers excellent training for the carnival at Eltham on February 27th. Quite as a side issue, competition at either carnival or both will give the Stratford handicapper a line on which to go in connection with the Champion Cup handicaps.

And the swimmer who is most often (in his own opinion) mis-handicappod is more often than not the swimmer who declines to put up actual racing figures for fear the handicapper will “pocket” him. “Pocketing,” unless intentional, tho possibility of which nobody admits, is a result of refusal to make actual racing figures. Moral: An embryo Koran will go into tho “dark horse” business: the moderate-paced rank-and-filer will accumulate actual racing figures.
