MELBOURNE
OVER CHINESE CONSULATE. <By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) (Received 20, 10.95 a in.) Melbourne, February 20. The Chinese Consul-General has hoisted the new Republican flag above the Consulate. GISBORNE CHINESE AND THE ABDICATION. CASH SATISFIES HONOUR. (Per Press Association.) Gisborne, February 19. So far as Gisborne was concerned there was no evidence of a holiday among the few Chinese. residents in celebration of the abdication of the Manchus. A local Chinaman states that the Chinese talked the matter over, and decided that while appreciating the great burden of which the country had been rid, thought loyalty to the Republican cause could not lie more expressively demonstrated than already had been done. The Chinese of Gisborne had subscribed £3O towards the Revolutionary funds. This was considered ample evidence of loyalty to the Republican cause.
