(Per Press Association.) Palmerston, February 19. The Pageant Fair, ,in aid of the High and Technical School funds, organised by the Mayoress (Mrs J. A. Nash) ended on Saturday night. It was a brilliant success,, realising over £IOOO, including Government subsidy. Tiie debts on both schorils are wiped off. Wellington, February 19. A somewhat unusual application by Mr J. J. McGrath on Friday regarding expenses in connection with the prosecution at the Magistrate’s Court of Alexander Rose on a charge of being disorderly while drunk was granted by Mr Riddel, S.M., on Saturday. Costs £G 7s were allowed against the police. Thames, February 19. The Royal Mail Private Hotel, owned and occupied by George Crosby, was completely destroyed, by fire at Paoroa. Several boarders bad narrow escapes in night, attire. The lire is believed ,to have commenced in the room of “Scotty” Preston, an engineer, 24, who was burned to death after a vain attempt was made to reach his room. The insurance on the building was £BOO and, on the furniture £650. Crosby is a heavy loser. Taihape, February 19. There was a very large gathering of natives and Europeans and a procession to t Jig native church and burial ground heakled 'by the Taihape band. There was . the usual lavish hospitality to visitors.
