During the past seven years 215 books have been stolen from the library at Peterborough Cathedral, including one worth £BOO. John Tinkler, the clergyman’s son, lias been arrested. Two of the oldest books in the library at Lincoln Cathedral have also disappeared. Pothick brothers, of Plymouth, have contracted for the docks, granaries, and station at Fort Churchill, the tender being for four millions and a half. Rome, February 15. Biagio Chiavaaoli, steward on an estate at Teramo, was dismissed from his position. Three days’ sleeplessness resulted in madness and then he secured a scythe and hacked to death his aged mother, wife, eldest daughter, and servant. Ho then fired the house, ignited the haystack, killed his baby and mutilated several others. He failed in an attempt at suicide. . ~i • • (Received 16, 1.55 p.m.) London, February 15. In the third billiard match between Gray and Stevenson the scores now stand: Stevenson 14,901, Gray 14,127. (Received 16, 12.15 p.m.) New York, February 15. There has been an epidemic of train wrecks in North (America. Two freight trains collided north of Yarmouth, the wreckage being burned. Three trainmen lost their lives in the flames. The fireman of the locomotive was pinned under the debris and mangled. He asked for something to kill himself with, owing to his terrible pain. A doctor administered chloroform. Later , the fire swept down, burning the man to ashes. Nine cars of an east-bound Pennsylvania railroad express were derailed at Huntingdon. Four persons were killed and twentyfive injured. A third wreck occurred in Utah. A locomotive jumped the track at Bingham, rolled down an embankment and crashed through houses, killing three tailor shop employees. The locomotive finally fell through the roof of a bank, the clerks of which narrowly escaped. The enginedriver was killed. . A
