BRITAIN AND GERMANY.

LORD HALDANE RETURNS TO

LONDON

THE DEMOCRACY WANTS PEACE

(By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) i united Press Association.)

London, February 13. Lord Haldane conferred with Mr. Asquith, Mr. Harcourt, Mr. Churchill, and Mr. Lloyd George, and afterwards met Cabinet officially. It is admitted in London that th< description of Lord Haldaine’s visit as private is misleading, though he war not in a position to commit the Government.

Mr. Asquith requested him to go to Berlin to discuss certain matter;: should opportunity occur. Mr. Simon, K.C., at Walthamstow said that while." the democracy rejoiced at the good understanding, with France, they will not be prepared to tolerate the idea involved in the unfriendly feelings towards Germany. If the democracy were deter .mined to get its view carried out there would be good feeling between Britain and Germany.
