DOMINION NEWS.
(Per Press Association.) Gisborne, February 10. Gisborne is on fete to-day the occasion being a welcome to the Governor, who arrived overland from Rotorua at *7 o’clock last night. His Excellency’s hotel was brilliantly illuminated by electricity, this being the first installation of the new municipal supply. The official welcome at 10 o’clock this morning was largely attended, loyal addresses being presented. The Governor then proceeded to turn the first sod of the GisborneNapier railway at King’s Road, Hakauri, being accompanied in a special train by a large number of townsmen and representatives from Hawke’s Hay. This afternoon the Governor lays the foundation stones of the new Holy Trinity Church and of the hospital. In the evening ho will lie tendered a banquet. The weather to-day is dull and threatening, a heavy storm last night having passed over the town which is gay with bunting. Several visiting bands which have arrived for the contest next week participated in the ceremonies. Feilding, February 10. A mo!) of slice]) shorn yesterday were placed in an accommodation paddock hero last night. The night was very wet and. cold and this morning 23U of Hie sheep were dead.
